The Pre-cancelled of France - 3rd Period 1922 - 1954 : A pre-cancelled postage stamp is canceled by cancellation before use. It is intended for mass mailings as well as regular printed matter and samples. It saves the postal employee from the tedious work of canceling the postage stamp. After a trial period in Paris in 1893, it was not until 1920 that the first pre-cancels appeared in France. This was the 2nd period from 1920 to 1922.
The collection covers the 3rd period of pre-cancelled stamps from 1922 to 1954. During this period, the commonly used postage stamps are overprinted with an arc marked "AFFRANCHts / POSTES". The objective of the collection is to provide an overview of the printing process of pre-cancelled stamps (plate defects, dated corners and varieties) as well as the use of these postage stamps in accordance with the postal rates at that time.
The beginnings of stamps without face value (1838-1878): here all the stamps have a fiduciary value. Their main and discriminating characteristic is that they have no apparent face value. The value of the trust (of the state's debt) cannot be seen, it can be guessed. This can be done using a code (colored, alphabetical, graphic ...). The service (s) the stamps correspond to can be indicated in "all letters". There are other cases where, the service being unique, there is no need to appear on the stamp of face value.
The fiduciary values of these stamps can be fixed or variable. This concerns stamps (in the strict sense), postal stationery, newspaper stamps, coils ... These stamps are now in use in more than a hundred countries, on five continents. They are on the way to become, for some, the norm, the number of stamps with visible face being infinitely less than that of the stamps without.
The study presented here focuses on the first fifty years of what can be called the "family" of stamps with no apparent facial value, from 1838 - two years before the first stamp - until 1887. Enter the scope of this study no less than thirty-three countries, states, provinces ... Of these thirty-three, twenty-three are shown in one or more pages. As far as possible, the stamps which are exposed are in mint condition and accompanied by at least one cover.
